From what i have been reading, this was a project that got too long in the tooth and was kinda just put out as is, just t get it over with...
First off I love the game, it is hands down the best dating SIM i have ever played.
a few things i noticed in the game i was curious about.. it looks like some stuff was stated, or intended, that never reached fruition...
first thing:
The question chains on the girls... I noticed they have sets of questions that will beget another new question if you answer appropriately.
for example, on Barnette: the first time she asks you if her butt is too big, if you respond with the line recycled on Jura, she will thence proceed to the question about thee .45 luger... If you then reply that you thought lugers were 9mm, she will thence proceed to tell you jura pisses her off sometimes... if you answer that she can take it out on you she will thence proceed to ask you about the gifst you are giving other pilots... If you respond that you will get her one soon, you spent all your money on Jura, she will thence proceed to ask you why you smell like Parfet, if you respond that you think she is hot, Barnette suggests a threesome with her.
Now, that is the *first* instance of the chain with her.
The *second* time he asks you if her butt is too big, the chain remains the same, but the answers to get the next question change... this time if you tell her you would like to see her beat Juras boobies, she will move to the luger question, the response to get the next question in this chain is then "lets burn some clips"...
An incorrect response in any of the chain resets the question chain back to the standard question they ask, i.e. is that a gun in your pocket etc...
I identified 3 alternating sets of responses for each girl.
Was this originally intended as a progression that was never completed?

why is your email named spam01? >.>; was just going to ignore the activation glad you posted something to let me know you are real also glad you enjoyed the game. as for the stuff mentioned: Indeed this project was waaaay too long lasting. the dialogue in it's entirety.. is lacking. the idea was to have it change up, so they wont be saying the same stuff over and over. but that turned out not so good. And most of the game is them asking the same questions over and over. yes, it was intended to be some way for progression that never got implemented. there were also supposed to be random comedy chibi style scenes where the girl makes some gesture you you and you decide how to respond. it's kind of hard to explain. all I can say is I might revisit it and do another sweep of fixes and stuff one day. But you have to understand one thing. Even though I like the anime, I'm not a big fan of making other peoples commercial stuff even more commercial ><. It doesn't help me at all to do that. plus reworking on it would hold be back from completing a imo much better game I'm working on now. The game itself was Overdrawns idea, A lot of my input was added. The basic idea was to break from that generic dating game cookie cutter template, with the memory quiz, gift, camera, kiss.. rinse and repeat.. He retired from making the vandread game for various reasons, I told him I I'd finish the rest because i didn't want the game to not make it to a release after having invested so much time into it.. The action script coding i focused on fixing after he left was dates, all the hentai stuff, save/load, fixing space battle(apparently it was too hard), fixing music player, lots of other small fixes.. some of which include dialogue. Originally, I was just doing the art and the hentai stuff. some of that came be seem here. Most of issues with the game wouldn't he much of an issues to fix if I was the one who did the initial implementation. thanks for the feedback and I hope I answered your question XD

I kinda muffed that last question progression, was trying to type that out while raiding, i apologize hehe...
Last question progression should read:
The *second* time he asks you if her butt is too big, the chain remains the same, but the answers to get the next question change... this time if you tell her it's a trick question, right?, she will move to the luger question, the response to get the next question in this chain is then "lets burn some clips"... and from there jura pisses me off, THEN, beat her boobies, etc, etc..
The correct responses change based on whether it is the first, second, or third time she has asked you if her butt is too big... and after the third time it cycles back to 1st position.
it seemed to specific to be an accident.

ah, hehe we were writing at the same time, sorry about that. Yeah, my spam account is named mbspam, i generally use it when signing up for message boards and comments sections and other things i'm not certain wont sell the address to china for 1/100th of one cent Ok, Thanks for that, i spent hours going over that and working the questions again and again just learning the correct responses; because they alternated in 3 separate repeating patterns, it took forever to nail it down that there were 3 sequences... With different responses for each question in each sequence. Once i saw that the pattern could be replicated and intentionally broken i knew it had to be intentional. I'm curious about your other games, the stuff i see linked on http://www.vortex00.com/ (snowball, umichan, etc) is of a very different genre than the typical sim date, i looked at a couple tonight but, (as previously mentioned), was raiding so didn't really have a chance to check them out thoroughly... I understand the VLQ was originally suggested by someone else, do you tend to favor the sorts of games posted on the homepage as opposed to the dating sims, or are those test modules for a larger or more involved game? >>>Edit, in addition, one last question about VLQ, in the menu, there is a section titled "Secrets Found"... Are there any actual secrets to find?

Heh, I've got nothing against dating sims. It's just the fact that the characters and copyrights from an anime don't belong to me, the fan base is already established, and there's only so far I can go with it outside of it's own universe. I tend to favor stuff with characters not already popular from the start. Which is basically anything that got or gets fan-subbed, or appears on TV, etc. An entire project/game becomes just not as impressive to me when it gets popular if a huge fan base was already established to begin with. buffmuffin wrote: >>>Edit, in addition, one last question about VLQ, in the menu, there is a section titled "Secrets Found"... Are there any actual secrets to find? They never made it into the game. Some of them are there, and actually simply floating off-screen. But it wont tally it even if you find it. It was nothing game changing major, just simple things like an extra 'book' item and various hidden phrases by myself and the other folks who had a hand in making the game.

Ah, ok. Well to be honest i have never really seen much Hentai, and frankly the characters don't mean anything to me when i do play a dating sim. Honestly i have no idea where they come from regardless... I did play a game recently, i think it was Sim Brothel, that actually displayed the origins of the characters in it. Up until that point i didnt even know that most of these were in fact characters from other works. Frankly i agree with you, i don't think it is necessary or even wise to incorporate another persons character into your work. That steps on all kinds of toes with regard to copyright, and even if the copyright claim is satisfied, frankly it's damaged goods... That person may not agree or want his character in your situation whether you have a legal right to do so or not. I favor the idea of original work in an original game. To be honest, at least for me, the devil is in the details. A lot of these games are just so simplistic, so base, that they frankly border on the insulting. VLQ was a refreshing break from that. Even in the unfinished state it released in, there was still a free-wheeling set of circumstances that were player controlled whereby one could achieve a positive outcome though a variety of methodologies. There is no 'set' path to winning, and although the 'victory' was limited in scope, (NOW IS THE TIME ON SPROKKETS VER VE DANCE), you could get there as fast or as slow as you wanted, fufilling a minimal or maximal criteria in your own time, with enough stuff hidden in the game to make it interesting. Now, granted this hidden stuff never went live, but that didn't stop me from finding it Tracking down the hidden pattern to the question chains and looking for secrets that werent there made VLQ the most played flash game i have ever had... And the stuff didnt even work, (wasn't live). The idea that maybe there was a hidden path to do something special with Barnette immediately siezed on me as a possible workaroud to her inability to combine with the vanguard, and when i reached the point in the chain where she was suggesting a threesome with Parfet, that had alarm bells ringing. To my mind that's key and i hope to see a lot more of that in your upcoming endeavors. The hidden and the mysterious may not be appreciated by the "insert tool A into slot B crowd" But they already have a genre, it's called PORN people go watch some and leave the games to the gamers Regards, Buff.

Yeah, like you, I'm quite pleased with it myself even unfinished. Even as it is, it bowls over most of the other games of the same genre.
But it was just time to give it a rest. We were too ambitious for the time we had to do it, I suppose. That game is maybe 60% or so of what we visioned.
But I can take things in there, and make something even greater, and totally complete.
And I agree, most porn/hentai games are severely lacking in actual gameplay.
